My strategy:

Melt the cheese on my spatula over the stovetop so that there is guaranteed melty perfection

Butter the pan, not the bread; throw the grilled cheese on and immediately flip it so both sides receive butter

My recipe:

  • 4 slices of bread

  • 4 Kraft Singles (or whatever other sliced government cheese imitation you have)

  • 1 tbsp butter

Step 1: melt cheese over stovetop for maximum satisfaction, but not too much, it might stick to your spatula.

Step 2: put melted cheese on bread and put 1/2 tbsp butter on pan.

Step 3: throw grilled cheese on pan and immediately flip for even butter coating on both sides

Step 4: cook on high; aiming for crispy NOT crunchy.

Step 5: check the bottom for the desired crispiness and flip accordingly.

Step 6: repeat step 5.

Step 7: remove from heat once grilled cheese is done, cut DIAGONALLY and enjoy.

Review of this sandwich:

All in all it’s not my best work, the crispiness had a little to be desired. However, the cheese was melted to perfection and beautifully bonded the two slices of bread. I give this an 8/10, mainly lacking crisp.

Pretty sure the d-day battle plans were less detailed.

Think you’d probably get better results turning you’re heat down lower, this whole melt the cheese before cooking thing seems like an extra waste of time when you could accomplish steps 1-4 all at ounce lol

  4. I’m gonna have lot of trouble with the crispy v crunchy conundrum.

I got stuck in a loop between step 5 and 6 and burnt my house down 🙁

I know you said the texture was a downside for you but this is my favorite style of grilled cheese. Buttery and slightly soft with crispy edges and melty middles. Great job!!

Looks really good, unconventional cooking method and all.

What do we do with the remaining 1/2 tbsp of butter. The ingredients list says a full tbsp, but we only put in 1/2 a tbsp.
